An evening concert with an eclectic mix of jazz and classics for trombone and piano is sure to delight the audience at the Arizona Senior Academy on Tuesday (Aug. 11) at 7:30 p.m. Trombonist Moises Paiewonsky will display his talents in both styles, first with classical pianist Elena Miraztchiyska, and then with jazz pianist Richard Katz.
Miraztchiyska will open the program with a solo keyboard work by Scarlatti, and will then be joined by Paiewonsky to perform the Larsson Concertino for trombone and piano. Katz will then take the stage for a solo jazz piece, after which Paiewonsky will join him to play some favorite jazz standards for trombone and piano.
Making his fifth visit to the Academy, Paiewonsky is an Associate Professor of Trombone at the University of Arizona, and currently holds the position of Assistant Director of the UA Fred Fox School of Music. He was recently named a winner of the Arizona Daily Star’s annual 40 Under 40 Award.
Bulgarian born pianist Elena Miraztchiyska has appeared in solo and collaborative recitals in Bulgaria and Poland as well as in the United States, and has made a number of appearances at the Arizona Senior Academy in collaboration with a variety of performers.
Richard Katz is a local jazz pianist who most recently performed at the Academy last year as a member of the Gabriel Ayala Quintet.
