Mark Rush, violin, and Tannis Gibson, piano, return to the Arizona Senior Academy on an unusual day and time – Friday (Dec. 12) at 3:30 p.m. Their program “Viva Americana” will feature Rush and Gibson playing two “2nd Violin Sonata” works by both Charles Ives and William Bolcom.

Rush will perform “Viva” by Michael Daugherty and “Arpeggios from Hell” by Ingvie Malmsteen, unaccompanied.

Rush is a member of the music faculty at the University of Denver who formerly taught at the University of Arizona. He has performed with the Tucson Synphony Orchestra and the Tucson Chamber Orchestra and has taught master classes in cities throughout the country. He is a sought-after violin teacher and performer and is author of “Playing the Violin: An Illustrated Guide.” He also pursues his interest in yoga and is an avid hiker and backpacker.

Canadian-born pianist Gibson is Assistant Professor of Piano at the University of Arizona where she teaches studio piano and coaches chamber music.
