A trio of unique instrumental colors provided by University of Arizona faculty artists Jerry Kirkbride, clarinet, Sarah Fraker, oboe, and Rex Woods, piano, will delight the ears in a program of chamber music at the Arizona Senior Academy on Tuesday (Feb. 24) at 11:30 a.m.  Their concert will feature elegant works for this uncommon combination.

The timbral variations between the single reed of the clarinet and the double reed of the oboe will be combined with the unifying texture of the piano, creating refreshing dialogues and dissonances.  Two French Romantic works of the early 20th century will be paired with works from our own time.

Kirkbride, former clarinetist of the world famous Dorian Wind Quintet for over 40 years, has toured and recorded internationally.  He joined the faculty at the University of Arizona in 1987 and is a member of the Arizona Wind Quintet.

Fraker, newly appointed Assistant Professor of Oboe, joined the University of Arizona faculty in 2013.  She has been a member of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra since 2005 and is a current member of the Arizona Wind Quintet.

Woods has performed internationally and is best known to regional audiences as both a soloist and chamber musician.  He has appeared frequently with duo-piano partner Paula Fan and has taught at the University of Arizona since 1988.
