The Tucson Symphony Orchestra Trio will perform at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 12), featuring some old friends of the Arizona Senior Academy. Michael Fan is the violinist, Ian Jones the cellist, and Paula Fan the pianist.
Many people who go to a symphony concert look and listen to the players and think that’s all they do. But today’s symphony musician has to master a variety of styles beyond the Three Bs and, among other things, create innovative ways to “hook” the next generation on classical music.
The artists appearing in the TSO Trio are particularly adept at many aspects of musical performance, including solo works, sonatas and members of a variety of chamber groups (indeed, ASA audiences have heard each of them in the past in several of these roles). The musicians for this concert will make a point of acquainting the audience with some of these activities.
It is anticipated that the program will be drawn from the following selections: “Invierno Porteño” by Piazzola; “Trio Op. 44” (Beethoven’s Mouse) by Beethoven (arr.by M. Fan); “Three Nocturnes” by Bloch; and “Trio, Op. 1, No. 1 – Presto” by Beethoven.
