International touring artists Diane Van Deurzen & Lisa Otey are a dynamic duo who combine their singing voices with Otey’s masterful keyboard playing for rousing and soulful renditions of jazz, blues and boogie woogie tunes.
The Arizona Senior Academy is pleased to present Van Deurzen & Otey in concert on Tuesday (June 19) beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Van Deurzen and Otey perform together with easy rapport and emotional connection. Their arrangements seamlessly alternate solo passages with interweaving vocal lines and two-part harmonies. Otey, who has been inducted in to the Tucson Music Hall of Fame and the Arizona Blues Hall of Fame, plays a mean boogie woogie piano, but also an evocative lyrical style in ballads and love songs.
The two have co-produced several CDs on their label, Owl’s Nest Productions, including Van Deurzen’s I Never Knew, Otey’s Trio, Bring Your Own Boa for Lisa Otey and the Desert Divas, and Van Deurzen & Otey’s duo CDs, You Got What I Want, Wild Women and their Christmas hit, Meet Me Under the Mistletoe.
Tuesday’s program will include varied selections from their CDs, such as “You Got What I Want,” “When Things Go Wrong,” “Down the Road a Piece,” “You Really Got a Hold on Me,” “Summertime,” “Blue Skies,” “Night & Day,” and “Our Love is Here to Stay.”
Praise for Van Deurzen & Otey comes from many corners: “Van Deurzen’s voice is warm and soothing, pouring out the lyrics with effortless control.” –Tucson Lifestyles. “Otey’s piano and vocals are hot and steamy; together they blend like a musical cappuccino with extra foam on top.” –Chuck Graham. “Fun stuff from Lisa Otey and Diane Van Deurzen, a great mix of sass, sentimentality and humor.” –Duncan Hudson, KXCI.
