Mary Beth Tyndall & Jacob (Jun) Lee

Tucson Symphony Orchestra Cellist Mary Beth Tyndall will again bring a talented, young cello student to The Arizona Senior Academy to perform—actually more than one this time.

The concert will begin at 11:30 Tuesday (March 3) in the Academy’s Great Room. Tyndall will start the concert with performances by four youngsters from one family who live in the general area of The Academy Village and are home-schooled by their parents.

Naomi Turner, cello, and her sister Sarah, violin, will be playing two short Mozart duets.  Naomi is 8, and Sarah is 11, so we will get a glimpse of the talent of these younger performers and how they have responded to instruction by Tyndall.

Then their brothers, 16 year old Samuel Turner, cello and 15 year old Nicholas, piano, will perform together, with a selection to be announced.

Mary Beth has described these four as her “warm-up” band for Tuesday.

The featured performer will be Jacob (Jun) Lee, who is 16 years old and a junior at University High School.  He soloed with the Civic Orchestra of Tucson in the spring of 2014 and was also a member of Arizona All State Orchestra in 2014.

This past fall he was a finalist in both the Tucson Symphony Orchestra Young Artist’s Competition and the Tucson Philharmonia Youth Orchestra Scholarship Competition.  In December he was a featured performer at the Tucson Symphony Orchestra League’s Nutcracker Luncheon.  Jacob (with Mary Beth Tyndall on piano) will be performing works by Handel, Faure and David Popper.

Tyndall, has performed at the Arizona Senior Academy a number of times. She has been with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra since 1980 and is a member of the Southwest String Quartet. Tyndall is a very active cello instructor with students ranging from kindergarten on up.

She earned her undergraduate degree at Ball State University and a master’s degree from the University of Arizona and has studied with an impressive group of cello instructors.
