Why do certain songs resonate on a core level, providing comfort to heal or producing various emotions?
Pima Community College faculty member Timothy Cruz will discuss “The Biology of Music” in a 3:30 p.m. lecture Thursday (May 5) in the Arizona Senior Academy’s Great Room.
Cruz will speak on the therapeutic role of music in healing and wellness, and describe the new and expanding frontiers of biomusicoloogy.
“I hope the audience gains an awareness of how music affects them on a physical, emotional and spiritual level and how that process might help them to heal,” Cruz said.
Cruz is a full-time faculty member and department chair for Sciences at PCC’s Downtown Campus. He completed his undergraduate studies at Stanford University, graduate training from the UCLA School of Medicine and obtained board certification in pediatrics.
He has had a life-long interest in music. Cruz played the violin in the Santa Monica Symphony during his time in medical school, residency and clinical practice.
